2023 European Commission Rule of Law Report provides information on right of access to information in Slovakia. According to the report, positive amendments have been introduced to the regime regulating access to public documents. The Freedom of Information Act that regulates the right of access to information was amended in 2022 by two acts:

  • Act No. 251/2022 Coll. on amendment of the Act No. 211/2000 Coll. on free access to information;
  • Act No. 428/2022 Coll. on amendment of the Act No. 211/2000 Coll. on free access to information.

The scope of entities obliged to provide information was clarified and widened. The Act, as amended, also expressly provided that persons who obtain information under the Act may further disseminate the information and shall not be held liable for doing so except in cases where it may breach an individual’s right to privacy. According to the 2023 European Commission Rule of Law Report, the Freedom of Information Act has been brought in line with the EU legislation.
