The rule of law tracker has been launched!
On 19 December, we organized a launch conference and a roundtable discussion to present the rule of law tracker created by the Slovak National Centre for Human Rights in cooperation with the Center for International Legal Cooperation. The conference took place in a hybrid format, with the possibility of in-person and online participation.
The conference introduced our rule of law tracker that was part of the project entitled “Fostering innovative approaches to rule of law monitoring in Slovakia” supported by the financial contribution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands that enabled us to conduct this project.
The aim of the project was to create a practical and meaningful tool for monitoring and evaluating the state of the rule of law in Slovakia, which would enhance the regular monitoring of the most significant progress in the selected areas of the rule of law and provide comprehensive assessment of the situation in each of the selected areas.
Thus, the main functions of the tracker are to highlight areas where significant progress has been achieved, and on the contrary to alert areas in which no progress has been made, or in which standards deteriorated. This aim is to also encourage public debate on further legislative and public policy development toward enhancing rule of law in Slovakia. Moreover, the aim of the tracker is to provide information to wide spectrum of users including interested stakeholders, scholars, legal professionals, media, members of civil society, businesses and wider general public.
We are very much honored that the welcoming remarks at the launch conference were given by Gabriella Sancisi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Slovakia.
We would like to also express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Pim Albers (CILC) who guided us through the whole process of creating the methodology and the tracker itself as well as all our international and national colleagues that provided us with valuable feedback, including ENNHRI, Transparency International Slovakia and their helpful team, AmCham Slovakia, or the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic, along with the selected individual international and national experts, such as Anna Adamska – Gallant, Aulona Hazbiu, Zyhrada Kongoli, Snezhana Krumova and Law and Internet Foundation, Philip Langbroek, Sami Serageldin and Csilla Szomolaiova.

We hope that the proposed methodology and the created rule of law tracker will find its way to all interested users and that it will contribute to the enhancement of monitoring and reporting on the state of the rule of law in Slovakia, and namely to the promotion and protection of the rule of law.
