The Centre submitted its alternative report to the European Committee of Social Rights

News

We have submitted our alternative report on the implementation of the European Social Charter (Revised) to the European Committee of Social Rights, which decides whether the national situations comply with the Charter.

The Government of the Slovak Republic submitted its 13th National Report to the Committee in February 2023. As a national human rights institution, we welcomed the opportunity to provide the Committee with information on the implementation of the selected provisions of the Charter and to reflect on the 12th National Report of the Slovak Republic. This year, the Committee will focus on the provisions under the thematic group 4 – children, families and migrants.

Our alternative report therefore focuses on previous conclusions of the European Committee of Social Rights and implementation of selected provisions by the Slovak Republic under the right of the family to social, legal and economic protection (Art. 16) and the right of children and young persons to social, legal and economic protection (Art. 17).

We provided concrete information on:

  • gender-based violence and domestic violence and support services for survivors
  • lack of social housing, segregation of Roma families in housing and forced evictions
  • lack of social, legal and economic protection of LGBTI+ families
  • violence against children and young people, including cases of police violence
  • ongoing segregation of Roma children and children with disabilities in education and bullying in schools
